Many athletes spend a large amount of time outdoors in the sun, whether in the summer or winter. A lot of them do not protect themselves from the sun’s harmful UV rays. A common misconception is that wearing sunscreen will inhibit the body’s ability to sweat and thereby keep core temperature low enough for optimal athletic performance. In fact, just the opposite has been proven: Athletes who wear sunscreen are better able to regulate their body temperature. So always slather on the sunscreen before you head outside.
