A prolific marathoner, I currently live and train in Warr Acres, OK, where my husband/coach is the Head Men's and Women's XC/Track Coach at Oklahoma City University. Since making the commitment to being the best I can be (July 2004), my hubby has guided me from being a 19 min. 5K hobby jogger to running 2:37 in the marathon.
My dad and grandpa (both played basketball at Oklahoma State), my hubby (I wouldn't be where I am without him!), and all the women marathoners from the 70's and 80's who paved the way for the current generation (~good friend, Patti Dillon!).
Overcoming hernia surgery and a labral tear in 2010. Also, overcoming 7 stress fractures in high school and college.
I believe in doing things that are backed by peer-reviewed research. For example, I run barefoot and train in flats (for strong and healthy feet and legs), heat train year round (boosts blood plasma), drink coffee or tea before every run/race, and sleep a whole lot with naps.
I can drink like a fish! No, actually, all my close friends know this! Hmmm..... maybe standing on my head (although I haven't done this since I was about 12!). More people are finding out I brew darn good beer.... I'm also a pianist, have an awesome stamp collection, and play a mean French horn.
Winning 5 marathons so far, all between 2:37-2:43.
Long run and hills, the animals, beautiful trees and flower, fresh air, sun rising and setting, people, and crazy stuff I see on the run.... never gets boring.
Injuries
relax, but also get the most out of myself.
Doing all my training in flats and barefoot. 8 years and going strong! I also heat train year-round.
