I competed in cross country and swimming in high school, and ran on the UCLA cross country and track and field teams for a couple years in college. Go Bruins! After graduation I ran a few marathons, which eventually led me to triathlons. I gradually worked my way up from the sprint distance, and in 2007 accomplished my goal of completing an Ironman before my 30th birthday. I still dabble in tris, but focus mostly on running now. My goal for 2012 is to go sub-3:00 for the marathon.
My first triathlon inspiration was Michellie Jones, who I watched conduct a bike flat clinic before my first tri in Newport Beach in 1995. In running I am a fan of many of the US distance ladies, and it was an honor to watch them duke it out at the recent Olympic Marathon Trials in Houston.

I sometimes talk to myself in Spanish on long runs.
