About Me

The Mayfield Powerlifting Club was founded to promote the sport of powerlifting and to create some state and national champions in the process. To date our club currently holds 30 state records in various weight classes and age catagories. Several team members have qualified for nationals for the 2010 year. Our goals for the next year are to advance the sport of powerlifting by hosting our own meet and to set some new records and defend the records that we currently hold.

Inspirations

We are all inspired by different things. For some it is music, friends and family, or even something as simple as being able to claim the title of state champion.

Biggest obstacle/challenge

The biggest obstacles that we face are ourselves. The rules for the USAPL are very strict and require a great deal of practice to perform well at the meets. Finding the time to train as a group is also another challenge. We like to train together so that we can challenge ourselves to compete against a teammate. With work, classes, and families to work around, it's a wonder that we can even get together at all. Our dedication to be the best is what brings us together and keeps us working hard together.

Superstitions

Again, we all have our own superstitions. It could be listening to the same song before each attempt, or wearing the same singlet, and shoes.

Nobody knows...

There is so much more to the sport of powerlifting than just moving the weights. The form for each lift is very important, not only for safety, but for the successful completion of the lift.

Biggest athletic accomplishment

Personally, being able to say that I have taken first place in every competition I have entered. As a team, holding 30 state records.

Favorite thing about training

Being able to help others achieve their goals through proper technique and training programs.

Least favorite thing about training

The pain.

I work out to...

be the best at what I do. Either lifting or helping others to compete.

Unusual training regimens

Use of chains and rubberbands to improve speed of muscle contractions. Plyometric type exercises for various lifts. High volume/ high intensity days.
