6 Weeks Out
We are now down to 6 weeks to go for Chicago training, and things have really started to come around. It all came together here in the last 2 weeks, and started probably with the 22 mile long run with 4 hard miles, which I have a video to post of later in the day. Since that point the legs have gotten the stale feeling out of them, and I feel ready to go here for the next few weeks. Two weeks ago we were able to hit the highest mileage since last fall getting ready for New York and hit 119 miles that week. Last week ended with 115 miles for the week, another step in the right direction. Besides the long runs we had, there were a couple key workouts to getting the body going again. The first one was the long run with 4-5 miles hard which is anywhere from race pace to 10 secs faster a mile towards the end of the run. The 2nd big workout to get the legs going and that seemed to change everything was the 2x4 workout on Friday. The key here was I got to do it in the morning, and the temp along with humidly were both lower and seemed to make you feel that much better. In my case this was my rust buster for the segment, and it changed everything for me. The workout was nothing special, but was the first time I actually felt like I was not going all out, and could have done more by the end. The 2nd repeat of the workout we were fast on and the last mile, I actually had to keep myself from going after it, a feeling that hasn’t been around for a while. The week ended with a nice long weekend up at the lake relaxing and enjoying the sun and runs along the lake, to me picture perfect. So it brings us to 6 weeks to go here and things are now looking the best they have and a new PR should be coming on October 10, one that is well over due. The week will bring some harder workouts to the table, but more importantly a long run on the course in Chicago to get ready to roll.
