8 Weeks to go till Chicago

We have now made it through the second week of training here for Chicago, and things are starting to come around.  At the same time though I feel I am a little behind where I would like to be in my training compared to past marathons, but it could work out for the best.  Over the last few years I have found that about 3 weeks out from the marathon I seem to peak and then from that point on its is down hill and I do not seem to make the starting line feeling like I should.  Hopefully feeling a little behind right now means things will be timed right here come October 10 and we will be ready to rock.  But as everyone knows in marathon training a lot can change in the upcoming 8 weeks, so we will just have to wait and see.   This week had 2 workouts and another increase in mileage, and adding to that we were having one of the hottest and weeks of the summer.  The workout on Wednesday was a little longer than in the past but should have felt pretty comfortable and a confident booster for the up coming weeks.  With that being said it went ok, but the heat and humidity of 90+ for both got to you and made things a little harder than they should have been.  For the 2nd workout of the week I got to do it up north around the lake, on one of my favorite loops to run.  For those of you who have never been to northern Michigan you are missing out, but for me Lake Charlevoix has become a place for me to head to every weekend to relax and enjoy the outdoors.  For the 2nd straight workout of the week we had another hot humid day, but running along the water the whole time makes up for it as you can relax and picture yourself out there on the boat later in the day.  The workout went better than on Wednesday, and gave me some more confidence for the up coming future.  Finishing up the week I got in a couple more runs up north and boost of confidence for the next 7 weeks.   The new product of the week was the new PowerBar Ironman Endurance drink.  Since it came out earlier this summer, this was the first time for me to get to use it during a workout, and found the results to be great.  The taste was great and I recommend the Lemmon lime flavor for your use, when looking for that extra edge in training for your big race.  The up coming week will start to show us a little more about where we are in our fitness and the rest of the training cycle will bring in the quest for success in Chicago continues.
