Way to go Rudy!
I have had the fortune to meet one of PowerBar's long-time and most inspiring athletes, Rudy Garcia-Tolson. He is an awesome athlete, down-to-earth, and open to sharing his story and promoting Challenged Athletes. I saw him speak to a room of top high school students and their parents a couple years ago, and at the end of his speech the room was full of awe. Afterwards he took pictures and spoke with everyone who came up to talk with him, and he freely passed around his two very high-tech legs so that people could get a better look at them. What a guy! Not only was Rudy a gold medalist at both the Athens and Beijing Paralympics, but this past year he had set out to become the first bilateral above-knee amputee to finish the Ironman World Championships in Kona. Sadly his dream was cut short by a mere 8 minutes after the back leg of the race, but he did not let that get in the way of his Ironman dreams. Just a month after Kona he set out yesterday for the second time to accomplish his goal, and last night crossed the finish line of Ironman Arizona in 16:06:27. When looking a little deeper I saw that his swim split was 1:00:42, even faster than some of the pros! A huge congrats goes out to Rudy for continuing to push through and reach his goal.
