Junior Track Nationals

This past weekend was awesome! I started out the weekend with the 200m time trial on Friday morning. To qualify or worlds I had to turn an 11.13s 200m tt, I knew this was an attainable time because I worked at perfecting my tt for weeks. The morning didn't start off all that well as I ended up throwing up my breakfast on the side of Rt. 222 on the way to the track. After that little incident I felt pretty good and warmed up normal to get ready for the tt. When the time came to run none of the riders before me made the time standard so I was a little nervious. I was able to put nerves aside and nailed the approach to it, this allowed me to turn an 11.025s 200m. This time qualified me for Junior Worlds. At this point I was confident I was the fastest sprinter and just had relax and run the sprints like I did in training against Laky, Giddeon, Dave and Dan. I was able to win each of my rides and take home a stars and stripes jersey. My racing started again on Saturday morning with a scratch heat. Due to some rain the 10 am session didn't start until 4 pm. This gave me time to sleep in and rest up. I was able to qualify into the scratch final in a very sketchy heat. The night session started for me with the keirin final. There was no heats for the keirin as there was only eight riders. This made me a little nervous because I didn't know what to expect from each rider. I didn't totally calm down and relax until I was in first position right behind the moto. From this position I was able razor the field and take the win. Later Saturday night I competed in the scratch final which was a fun race as it was delayed and a little crazy due to rain. The race did go off though and I was able to ride in the field most of the time. With three to go Zach Noonan made an excellent move off the front that gave a clear advantage and almost the win. With one to go Chaz came by me and I got his wheel as we got the big gears churning and went off the front after Zach. We caught him between turn three and four and went three wide around it. I was able to kick it just enough to get around Chaz for the win. It was a close race and a great move by both Noonan and Chaz. Sunday was the last day of racing and for me consisted of team events including team sprint and madison. My team sprint team was basically stacked and we took the win even with a few mistakes. The madison was a weird race as there wasn't enough teams to make it a true madison it became more of a bad points race. My partner and I were able to get the bronze in the event after all. The weekend was one I will always remember and I am looking forward to taking the trip to worlds in Italy.
