MN Fixed Gear Classic: Day 3

With the rain yesterday today's program was a double program composed of a variety of events from sprints to madison. We started warm up at 9:00 and the racing didn't end until 5:30, to say it was a long day is definitely an understatement. I stated the day off with a sprint tournament as the racing was canceled yesterday just before we started it. The first round went well and I was able to win and get a little better feel for the track. The semifinals were a different story as it began to rain with a lap to go in the sprint. Once the precipitation cleared the program resumed and I was able to this round in a close battle to the line. It was all down to the final round which was best of three rides. Before the final it was madison kilo time and my partner Danny and I were able to turn a respectable time and secure fifth place. I put in a big effort in the kilo and really hurt my legs for the sprints. The next event I rode was the first ride of the sprint final. It went absolutely perfect and I was able to out jump him and keep the lead through the line. The second ride didn't go so well as I went to do the same thing and went to kick it coming out of turn two to find absolutely nothing left. This was the case for the last ride also and I lost in the final to take second in the sprints. There was a huge program still ahead of me after the sprints and I just did my best to stick with pack and sprint at the end. This worked pretty well and I was able to place in some of the other events of the day and I got a little leg back for the madison. Danny and I went in with the goal of making it half way through but that soon changed to finishing the whole race and then to getting a point or two. We tried to do little work and just hang wheels which worked great and on the last lap I sprinted for a point or two to allow us to accomplish our goal. It was a great trip overall and I would like to thank the promoter and locals who made the event possible. I have a flight back home tomorrow at 5:45 so its going to be an early morning.
