Rain, Snow, More Rain and then Snow Again!
If you are a winter sports enthusiast, you most likely can understand and even relate to the cruel mood swings that Mother Nature has exhibited so far this winter in the Northeast. Our first significant snowfall came Halloween weekend. Although it didn't stick around for very long, it sure gave us hope that this winter would be of epic proportions. Then came some rain, some more snow, some more rain and warm weather that set high temperature records. Most of the resorts had delayed openings of at least a week, if not more. Since opening, we have been averaging one rainy day each week, followed by ideal snowmaking temperatures and then another rainy day. Despite the weather, I've been able to accrue 19 days of snowboarding, almost all of which was in a coaching capacity. I've had to be really, really creative with my programs due to the limited terrain and lack of features (rails, jumps etc.). But, given the circumstances, I've been able to make it work and now all we can do is pray for some snow!
