Wii Fit Plus
I received a Wii Fit Plus for my birthday this month. I've always been curious about this product. Can this toy really help me reach my fitness goals? I happy to say that today is my 9th day and I have lost 1.2 pounds. The game starts out with a fitness test. Input your height, date of birth and step on the scale and your BMI (Body Mass Index) is calculated. While I don't think this is the best measurement of your overall fitness, there are other challenges thrown your way that test your balance, reaction time and visual acuity. This calculates your fitness age and gives some balance to BMI. There are 15 new games in the Plus edition that really make it fun to play with family and friends. Every game you play earns you fitness coins which are placed in your bank and calculated to show you calories burned after each session. The available categories are Training Plus, Yoga, Strength Training, Aerobics, and Balance Games. The system is very intuitive and your virtual instructor does a great job at explaining the moves that are expected. The balance board is very sensitive and measures the slightest movements which give the instructor feedback on how you are performing. The instructor will then give you advice to help you improve. Do well and you will be given more challenging games. Few games will give you the kind of cardio workout you can get by running or doing strength training in the gym. What works is that your progress is charted and the games are fun enough to keep you coming back. I find myself making healthier choices when I eat because I don't want to get on the board and see the scale rise towards obese. I also enjoy watching my avatar keep getting thinner! We'll see if this helps really helps me reach my goal to lose 12lbs in 3 months!
