Totally Focused Week of Training

This past week is what I dream about as far as training is concerned. I had no evening meetings to attend and no significant weekend obligations so I was able to do every workout I wanted. Each weekday I did a morning workout and an afternoon/evening workout. And over the weekend I added the big mileage - my long bike ride of 58 miles on Saturday and my long run of 16 miles on Sunday. I make the greatest improvements when I can be consistent like that.

My totals for the week:
Swim - 4x's for 13,200 yards.
Bike - 5x's for 174 miles.
Run - 6x's for 42 miles
Weights - 1x upper body for 60 minutes.
Weights - 2x's core for 55 minutes each session.

I was really dragging by the end of the weekend. I am amazed at what my aging 48 year old body can do. Over the recent years my training volume is still high, but my training pace has slowed down. But if I take just a few days of rest, then I can still race nearly as well as I did 10 years ago at my peak. Hopefully that will hold true again at Tri Worlds in Budapest, Hungary on September 12.
