SportVelo Mid-SummerTraining Camp
Three days of beautiful weather in the Santa Cruz mountains spurred on a small but persistent group of SportVelo athletes during the SportVelo Mid-Summer Camp. Determined to improve their endurance after weeks of crits and track riding, the cyclists took on the hills, including an 81-mile ride with 8,000 feet of climbing up such hills as China Grade. The last day was topped by the infamous "Planet of the Apes" ride to Half Moon Bay as 15 cyclists endured first the heat of the day, then then cool, wet fog, and single-track dirt on their road bikes -- good for bike handling!Favorite food: Nut Naturals Energy Bar, Mixed Nuts.
SportVelo Winter Training Camp
4 days of beautiful weather for the SportVelo Winter Training Camp! 50-80mile rides in the Santa Cruz mountains with 30 participants, all going longer and harder as they are challenged by the group. We were joined by our speakers: Angie Weinberger on flexibility, MaryAnn Levenson on diet, and Marvin Zauderer on mental training. Everyone was tired on Monday, but we will see a nice bump in fitness in time for the opening road race of the season, Snelling. Favorite food: PowerBar Fruit Smoothie Energy bar, Creamy Citrus. We are all out, and I need to order more for the hungry cyclists!
SportVelo Fall Foundation Training Camp
20 cyclists at the three-day SportVelo Fall Foundation Training Camp despite the cold temps! Started off at 34 degrees, warmed up to 48 degrees. Up to 7000 ft of climbing over 75 miles, complete with Sag vehicle. A range of ages, from 21 years old to 72 years old! And everyone climbed King's mountain. The sag vehicle had not only water, but also Raspberry Blasts, Vanilla Gels, and Harvest Bars. The afternoon offered recovery massages, burritos, and an educational presentation on PowerBar products, including a call for feedback for favorite PowerBar products. The presentation included a reminder to all camp participants to eat at regular intervals, especially earlier in the rides and during the early days, so that the cyclists can finish both the day's training, and the following days' training. The overall favorite of the training camp cyclists: Raspberry Blasts.
