Fueling and hydration in the marathon (condensed version)

I wrote a condensed version of "Fueling and hydration for the marathon" for the latest OKC Landrunner's newsletter. I took out the part about drinking to match your sweat rate. Seeing that gastric emptying rate lags behind your sweat rate (plus liberating water from glycogen breakdown), you really don't have to drink to match your sweat rate. If others have a view on this, feel free to share! http://camilleherron.com/2012/04/02/fueling-and-hydration-for-the-marathon-condensed-version/

Pulled off PanAmerican and NYC Marathon double-- 2:40:06 for 3rd American

7367-r.jpg I pulled off the 2 week marathon double! Finished 9th at the PanAmerican Games in Guadalajara, Mexico (5200 ft./82 degrees), and then came back to finish as the 3rd American and 18th overall female at NYC in 2:40:06. I ran a patient and conservative race and picked off people. I tweaked my hydration for this race-- just drank a little at a time throughout the race, not massive fluids. 2 1/2 gels as always. It was my 7th Olympic Trials qualifying times. Now to rest and recover and then get in a good block of training for the Olympic Trials! The photo is from the Powerbar booth at the NYC Expo-- I also ran into someone who works for Powerbar (Eric A.??).
