Burrito Relay

Thanks Powerbar - used some product and gear as awards at our TNT track session last night.  paired everyone up and had them run 6 miles (3 miles each) .  They submitted estimated pace / mile.  Speed didnt count, but accuracy was awarded.  Everyone had a blast and the product and gear was a HUGE success.  THANKS!

Little Fuel goes a long way

Working out after a long day in the office can sometimes be tough.  Eating lunch at noon and then trying to urge the body to perform 6 hours later requires some preparation, specifically fuel.  I found eating half a bar or a PowerGel 30 minutes before my workout really increased my performance.  I was necessarily hungry, but getting 100-200 calories in really made a difference!  Thanks PowerBar

Even veterans need a little reminder

As a 17 year veteran of triathlons, even this old dog needs to be reminded to keep his nutrition going over the course of a long training day.  This past weekend I went out for a 70 mile ride with my training group.  The ride included 4 major climbs in Northern CA.  We stopped around halfway to get more liquids, and I thought I had more fuel on me than what I did.  Around the 3 hour mark I reached back into my jersey for some more PowerBar calories, and to my dismay, discovered I was out.  No more food.  No big deal, I thought at the time.  WRONG.  I got popped out the back end of the ride about 20 minutes later.  The last 40 minutes was a bonk delerious ride. The very next day I was out training with the same group and took more more care to make sure I kept my fuel intake up.  With a steady combination of gels and bars, I felt completely different from the day before and road off the front of the pack.  I wouldn't say lesson learned.  More like lesson reminded.  I knew I needed more calories, I just forgot to pay attention and thought I was above it for a brief second! : ) Thanks PowerBar for keeping me fueled.

TNT 2010 Lavaman recap

I just finished coaching the 2009-2010 Lavaman Season with TNT.  We had 108 of 107 people cross the finish line.  (one veteran participant swallowed some seawater and had to be pulled from the race).  We raised $436,000 for cancer research, and helped change a ton of lives.  As a coach - it is quite rewarding to see the mind, body, and soul transformation that takes place over the course of a season.  If you are an elite athlete, and have never volunteered, I highly recommend it.
