Rock N Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon Win
A good win, not a record, but still posted a great time of 49:40 with 2nd place nearly 6 mins behind.
Laybor Day Weekend
My weekend started on the friday before the first monday in September. Started with a drive from Indiana to Virginia Beach... me and my dog.. and the racing wheelchair. The event was the Rock n Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon. I have been the champion there several times, but was determined to have a course PR. Previously my best time was 50:01.. but with a good tail wind in one direction that allowed me to average over 17 mph for the first 5 miles.. this year was different.. after the hurricane had gone through. No tail wind to start the race.. therefore had to rely on just my arm power. Average was 17 for 5k dropped to 16 for 10k.. crossed the line in 49:42... 1st place, almost 6 mins (and to my surprise) ahead of my fellow competitor.. Immediately following the race, I showered and drove to atlanta.Monday, 25th anniversary of my back injury that put me in a wheelchair, was the US 10k. I call this my anniversary event.. I put no pressure on it.. I just do it.. someday I will win it.. but this year was a fourth place finish.. although 1 minute faster than 2009.Follow that up with 7 hr drive home..Dedication... I believe I have some..
Falmouth Road Race
Currently coming off a back injury in the week before this event, I had intended on taking the wheelchair championship. My wheels had other plans though and so did my back.. A week prior I threw it out at a basketball practice, yes I am a muti-athlete, and during the race my wheels somehow came completely loose from my Racing Wheelchair. However this ended up being a 2nd place finish for me in the Falmouth Road Race. The 2nd weekend in August.
