Second Stop of Winter Dew Tour Kicks Off In Killington
(allisports.com) Killington Resort in Vermont is full of pro skiers and snowboarders right now, hitting up the 22-foot pipe and obstacle-filled slopestyle course to get ready for the Winter Dew Tour prelims, which start tomorrow. Practice is underway for the second stop of the Tour, and the race for the Dew Cup is heating up with only this event standing between the athletes and their chance to claim the overall title at next month’s Toyota Championship finals in Snowbasin. Nike rider Elena Hight is coming off a podium finish at last month’s Nike 6.0 Open in Breckenridge, and she’s ranked second overall in snowboard superpipe. After riding the 22-ft. pipe here in Killington, she took a few minutes to refuel in the cafeteria. “The pipe seems like a good size and it’s definitely got good shape, so the contest should turn out good,” Hight said. “It’s definitely icy so I definitely think everybody’s having a little trouble in it, but hopefully we get some snow tonight and it will be good tomorrow.” Freeskier Jossi Wells is competing in both slope and pipe at this event, and he was stoked on the setup for the slope course. “One of the things that I noticed about the course straight away is that there’s three rail features into three jumps,” Wells said. “So it’s equal rails to jumps, and usually there’s not so many rails. So that’s going to be pretty sweet.” Tomorrow’s event runs all day, with men’s and women’s snowboard slope prelims kicking off the action. The competitions continue with prelims for freeski slopestyle, and wrap up with men’s and women’s snowboard slopestyle prelims. After the mountain closes, head over to the Wobby Barn where DJ Cassidy will put on a live set for the fans. Check out the full event schedule and be sure to tune in for the live NBC broadcast on Saturday for the freeski pipe finals from 4:30-6 p.m. ET and Sunday from 4-6 p.m. for the snowboard slope finals.
