2012 is an Olympic year!

Coming off my stress fracture in my lower back in August set me behind a bit. However, this summer of cross training gave me a  chance to build my milage slowly and make sure I'm ready for the Mile/1500 this track season in 2012. I'm currently healthy and running 75 miler per week.
Last weekend I raced in Seattle at the USATF Club Cross Country Nationals. I used this race as a workout and a stepping stone to my indoor season. I plan on racing a mile in NYC on January 21st as my season opener. I have high hopes this winter and summer as my training has been better then ever this past fall.
I will keep everyone up to date with my training and racing this winter. This June is the Olympic Trials and I plan on being healthy mixing things up with the best.
I have been loving all my Powerbar product!!!!

It's all about June 2012!!!

This season has had it's up and downs. I spent 7 weeks training on an Alter G this Jan-Feb. Then 3 weeks ago I was getting very fit and ready to head over to Europe until I started dealing with some pain in my periformis. The PT thinks it could of been a stress reaction, but I'm not 100% thats what it was. That being said, I took 2 weeks off and cancelled my Europe trip.
I'm now training on a elliptical and getting some good workouts in(on the elliptical). I will start running on the Alter G next week in hopes to be running by August 16th (just in time for THE RUNNING SCHOOL).
I have been speaking with some contacts in Kenya and as of now the future looks good for me heading to the Rift Valley from November- March in order to be ready for those US Olympic trials next June!!!
Time to take "the road less traveled".

Alter G Workouts!

This weekend (Saturday, Jan. 15th) was going to be my season opener in Seattle, Washington. However, with the sport of running not everything goes as planned. During one of my workouts at the end of December I had injured my adductor. At first I thought I would be able to run though this, but the more days I tried to run/ workout it seemed to get worse. After Christmas I went to a PT who thinks I just had a slightly pulled adductor.
The last 2 weeks I have been very fortunate to be given permission to use an Alter G here in the Portland Area from Physical Therapist Sean Daily at “Therapeutic Associates” in Lake Oswego, Oregon. This has helped keep my training sessions at very high level.
I can’t be sure how much longer I will have to cross train on the elliptical and Alter G, but what I do know is I HAVE ALWAYS COME BACK FROM INJURY STRONGER! I really can’t explain it, but it’s true.
I have posted a video above of one of my workouts done at 90% body weight on the Alter G from this past Monday 1-11-11. Yesterday, I also did a 3 mile tempo run at 90-94 % body weight in 14:14 and felt great. Let’s just hope my next post is a completely injury free post. I still have some hope of running a few races indoors, but if I have to miss out I’ll be ready for outdoors.

Life in Oregon

I have been in Beaverton Oregon for about a month now, where I will be living and training until the 2012 Olympic Trials. I have been working with a new coach and really have a good feeling about my future. Training has been going really well and smooth.
The weather has been a bit wet and cold, but I don;t mind nothing is worse then SNOW!

Back from Duluth and off NYC for 5th Ave Mile!

I just got back from Duluth, Minnesota where I raced the "Minnesota Mile". The field was loaded with sub four-minute milers from Kenya, England and the USA. On a list of 20 men I was 12th with a personal best of 4:00.80 in the mile.  I  only ended up 9th place but can’t be to disappoint with it being such a strong field. However I know my fitness is much better then shown in this race. I took a risk last week with some really hard workouts in order to set myself up for "5th Ave Mile" in NYC on September 26th. This race will be one of the fastest mile fields in the world. I was very lucky to get an entry with my 4:00 pr.
Since my workouts are going so well, I am trying to set up a race on the track 3 days after 5th Ave Mile on a track on Long Island, NY and attempted to make it official and break that amazing barrier of 4 minutes. I will keep everyone up to date as the details come in and the date gets closer.
Well it’s getting late and I have an important week of training this week to prepare!
