Q & A with Brian Boyle

  • Biggest obstacle/challenge
  • A little over the half-way mark in my coma, I had to find the hope and strength that I needed to live life stronger than death.
  • Superstitions
  • I always have to listen to music before any race or competition and the night before I always eat pasta.
  • Nobody knows…
  • To get the inspirational athlete media slot for the Ironman World Championship, I had to complete at least one Ironman 70.3 triathlon, and with only one week of training under my belt before the race, I came into the bike-to-run transition and wrecked in front of everyone and the camera crew that was following me because I didn’t know how to get my feet out of the pedals. When I got to bike-to-run transition in Kona, I kept telling myself “Don’t crash, don’t crash” and luckily I made it through but it still makes me smile when I think about it
  • Biggest athletic accomplishment
  • Completing the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii
  • Favorite thing about training
  • Power lifting and bodybuilding is in my blood so I focus on my strength training just as much as my endurance sets.
  • Least favorite thing about training
  • I’m still pretty new to the sport so I’ll let you know when I find something I dislike about training.
  • I work out to…
  • Anything that gets the blood pumping, usually hard rock, grunge, or heavy metal, with an emphasis on the “heavy”
  • Unusual training regimens
  • Power lifting and bodybuilding is in my blood so I focus on my strength training just as much as my endurance sets.
